Located at the crossroads of US Highways 85 and 20/26 in the great prairie lands of eastern Wyoming, Lusk and Niobrara County are the gateways to the Black Hills of South Dakota to the north, Yellowstone & Grand Teton Parks to the west, Cheyenne Frontier Days and the Colorado Front Range to the south and the rich farmlands and sandhill counties of Nebraska to the east. Over 100 years ago the famous Cheyenne and Black Hills Trail and Texas Trail ran through the area giving us a strong western heritage. Here, hospitality prevails and the spirit of Wyoming dominates. If you like wide open spaces, fresh air and plenty of sunshine you'll like it here!

Our economy is diverse! On a given morning you may find a rancher, railroad worker, oil field technician and one of the area bankers
enjoying breakfast together at a local café. Agriculture has long anchored the community business structure often supplemented by
booms in mineral exploration. The Union Pacific Railroad runs a double track west to east through Niobrara County carrying Wyoming’s
coal to the Midwest and beyond. Lusk is home to the Wyoming Women’s Center, Wyoming’s state correctional facility for women. Small
businesses and light industry are welcome and thrive in an excellent commercial environment. Services include a quality education
system, municipal airport, humanitarian services, police, sheriff, ambulance and fire protection, large public library and churches of
many denominations. For recreation you can enjoy hunting, horseback riding, fishing, boating, hiking, rock/fossil/artifact hunting, tennis, sight-seeing and swimming. The Town of Lusk operates what many consider one of the finest 9 hole golf courses in the Rocky Mountains located on the headwaters of the Niobrara River. Each summer during the second week of July local volunteers stage the Legend of Rawhide, an annual gigantic outdoor show of western history including a cast of 500, 12 to 15 covered wagons, cavalry in uniform and a band of Indians. The Black Hills of South Dakota and the front range of Colorado are only a few hours drive on modern, scenic highways. Niobrara County welcomes you, come and spend some time with us! | |
